15th August 2007 - AFCB Director Steve Sly has issued the following statement to supporters of AFC Bournemouth through the Supporters Trust:

MESSAGE TO AFC BOURNEMOUTH FANS

Following the huge changes that have taken place at AFC Bournemouth since March this year with Jeff and myself now in the privileged position of running your football club along with the help of David and Ernie, and the tremendous support of Laurence, Liz and all the backroom staff, we have now reached our initial goal as promised of playing football on August 11th at The City Ground, Nottingham.

Considering the perilous position of the Club when we first became involved last October, I think huge thanks must be given to all of the above-mentioned personnel. While it has not been an easy ride and there is still a tremendous amount of work to do, I feel that we have provided the Club with a solid foundation. We have given Kevin 100% support and, while it has taken some time for him to build his squad, we were keen that he introduced quality as opposed to quantity. With 6 signings in the last 7 days I feel we have a squad more than capable of challenging at this level.

The Board is now working in a united fashion and is keen to work with the Supporters Trust in developing any new ideas and initiatives that it may wish to bring to the Club. Thanks to the hard work of Derek Borthwick and Rod Taylor the East Stand lift and disabled platform should be ready for our opening game subject to health and safety checks.

Debbie Harris has worked wonders again this season in promoting the Junior Cherries and will have the use of the Cherry Tree as a matchday facility where I am sure there will be lots of entertainment/games for our fans of the future. The Supporters Trust are now running the matchday lottery and matchday programme sales and I will be keen to talk to Derek Timoney about other matchday ideas where our supporters can become more involved.

Season ticket sales as of today are 2,584, which is an increase of 203 on last season with an expected last minute rush next week. A large number of these tickets have been sold to new supporters and this hopefully shows a clear indication of the support gained under the new regime. Whilst the Club still has huge financial difficulties it is in a better financial position than it was when we took it on.

We appreciate your tremendous support throughout the season and now is the time for all parties to come together and move forward in harmony with no hidden agendas, no politics, just success for AFC Bournemouth.

Have a great season.

Steve Sly
Vice Chairman
