›› Club Interviews

As part of an effort to improve communication between the club and supporters, the cm chair and vice chair meet regularly with Jeff Mostyn, Steve Sly and Laurence Jones from the club. On the 8th June Rob Trent met with Steve Sly

The meeting was very positive and it is clear that relationships between the Board and fans has improved tremendously.

Apart from the fact that the cm currently comprise 50% of the Board, and the feedback continues to be glowing, there is a consensus that the club will move forward if we support each other.

Whilst there will never be 100% agreement on any subject, I left the meeting feeling very positive about the improved relations, and also felt that Steve (and Jeff) are being as open and honest as they possibly can. I also felt that the club are taking a much more realistic position on things.

Anyway, I touched on two questions in particular that were asked by contributors to the rednblack website. The first:

Has there been any progress or planning towards bringing the conferencing and catering facilities back in house?

Steve confirmed that progress in this area is slow, but it is something that they are working towards. The club have given Sodexho options to consider and are awaiting a response but we know a change to the current set up is vital to help on a financial front. Changes to any existing contract wont necessarily come cheap, and spare cash is not something usually found lying around at Dean Court!

Are the board concerned about the long term implications for the club should the proposed housing development behind the East Stand go ahead?

Yes and no. Obviously doing anything that might restrict the clubs ability to expand in the future has to be greeted with caution. However, opportunities for expansion at the South End and the corners would probably allow for crowds large enough to support a sustainable Championship side, were we ever to get there. Whilst a larger capacity would be a great achievement and ultimately a desire we must also be mindful that without a financial boost
the club cant pay large legacy debts already parked on this development, so in summing up the club are trying to walk before they run.

Whilst people may agree or disagree, I feel that Steve was open and honest in his responses. There will be further meetings so please feel free to get your questions in, on the websites or by emailing us at afcbst@afcb.co.uk
