›› Crewe ST Chairman's Notes

Well, I’m certainly not going to tempt fate by putting down any comments on the possible take-over of AFC Bournemouth. By the time the Bristol Rovers game was played, those notes had become rapidly out of date. By the following Monday the situation had become even more ‘dynamic’. Whilst this is still an unsettling time for all supporters, I would like to say that your Supporters Trust are doing what they can to ensure the best outcome for AFC Bournemouth.

As it’s the final home game of the season I think it’s probably fitting (and certainly a safer bet) to concentrate on the actual football for a change. As supporters, we waited for quite a long time before we saw our first home win. However, things began to pick up in 2008. Indeed, since the administration and the dreaded ten-point deduction, the team have put together a string of fantastic results, and have closed what looked like an insurmountable 14 point gap, down to just 4 points. I’m sure that many of the so-called ‘experts’ would have written off our chances of survival. The team has shown that they are made of sterner stuff.

Things are still very tight, and today’s game against Crewe has become hugely significant. A win today and there’s absolutely everything to play for at Carlisle. It is to the management and playing staffs credit that the season still holds interest despite such setbacks. As supporters it’s important that we do our bit. Let’s hope that we spend the whole afternoon of this last home game shouting ourselves hoarse, and getting fairly and squarely behind the team. Maybe it’s too much to ask, but as an ‘older generation’ fan, I would dearly love to hear less of the piped music before today’s game, and the focus being on our fans creating a real football atmosphere.

These will be my last notes as Supporters Trust chair. Firstly I would like to say a thank you to the Trust Committee for their support throughout the year. The Committee have worked together and supported each other. I believe that the Trust can go from strength to strength with your backing. I also wanted to say that it has been a privilege to have held the role and represented such a loyal group of supporters who have proved time after time that you care about this club. Our club. I hope that as you do with the team, you will get behind the Supporters Trust and give them your support.

See you next season, whatever division we’re in!
